ABOUT THE EVENT

Fergus Quill

Fergus Quill is a composer, arranger and bassist from Leeds. He is an established performer within the city’s live music scene, building a reputation for original compositions that reflect an eclectic spectrum of influences ranging from Sidney Bechet to Boredoms.

For our matinee show, The Fergus Quill Trio, will be playing music from their latest album "¡Blamo!". The Leeds jazz mavericks have produced a record that pays homage to the Spaghetti Westerns of the 1960s and 1970s and in particular, the soundtracks of Italian composer Ennio Morricone.

The tracks merge film theme/soundtrack style music with jazz improvisation, and they will also play extracts from their first album ‘¡Zoop Zoop!’.

Maddy Coombs

Part of the Tomorrow’s Warriors Emerging Artist Programme, Maddy Coombs is a young up-and-coming tenor saxophonist who has played alongside Judi Jackson, Soweto Kinch and Mark Kavuma, as well as leading her own line-up music at Brighton Jazz Festival, We Out Here Festival, Pizza Express Jazz Club, Spice of Life and a host of other venues.

Maddy is also building a reputation as a brilliant composer and arranger with her own music drawing inspiration from many artists including Joe Henderson, John Coltrane, Melissa Aldana and Joel Ross amongst others.
