To celebrate her incalculable influence on jazz singing, and pianist & arranger have joined forces to create a birthday tribute to ‘Sassy’, which covers her most famous songs and the ups and downs of a long career, through several generations of jazz and popular music. Lulu PierreAlex Webb
Joining Lulu is the remarkable bass-baritone , bringing to life Sarah's famous vocal duets with Billy Eckstine, Joe Williams and others.Marvin Muoneke
About our musicians
Continuing to make waves on the London jazz vocal scene, Lulu Pierre has proved herself to be a classic 'torch song' stylist with the sass of Nancy Wilson and the swing of Sarah Vaughan – and a knack for heartbreaking ballads.
Marvin Muoneke is based in the West Country where has pursues an active career as a singer songwriter and arranger. He calls himself ‘The Young Man With The Old Soul’ – the title of his first album.
And leading our 7-piece band is pianist, arranger and songwriter Alex Webb with a long history of working with leading jazz vocalists. His songs have been recorded by Liane Carroll, China Moses, Jo Harrop, Allan Harris, Cherise, Ayanna Witter-Johnson and many others. Performing alongside Marvin, Lulu & Alex will be Simon Finch (trumpet), Josh Kemp (reeds and flute), Hamish Moore (bass) and Dan Hester (drums).
Support act: Philo
We are also delighed to showcase a fantastic trio, Philo, led by rising star drummer , alongside Holly Reinhardt on bass and Emily Tran on piano. They all study locally at the Purcell School, and we're delighted to welcome them for an opening set performing their own original compositions.Megan Visagie
